475. North Martingale Road, Schaumburg, IL.
It’s the address – etched deep inside my memory. For eleven years as I registered for actuarial exams, took them, anticipated results and wrote to the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the snail mail address that I wrote down hundreds of times across that one decade was: 475 North Martingale Road, Schaumburg, IL.
June and January we all waited for the 475 North Martingale Road envelope to come in with our results – sometimes leading to celebration, quite often to acute depression.
This Thursday when I went for a short meeting at the Society of Actuaries to meet a member of the continuing and professional education team, I had to take pictures. Part historical record, part personal satisfaction. While I had attended many SOA sponsored conferences and sessions, this was the first time I had actually made it to Schaumburg, a small town outside of Chicago, where Society of Actuaries is based.
Incidentally Woodland corporate park is where Swiss Re as well as Lincoln Financial are also situated in Schaumburg. Connings, the Swiss Re linked venture capital Fund and Lincoln were also investors in my last employer in Northern Virginia. So a lot of cross connections.
